Ukrainian authorities have published bodycam footage documenting the moments between two deadly Russian aerial strikes on a southern village, where at least 40 people lost their lives at an aid distribution site and nearby shelter.

The video, captured by a camera worn by a police officer who was later killed, depicts the immediate aftermath of an initial bombing on Monday in Kamyshuvakha, located in the Zaporizhzhia region. As stunned civilians navigated debris and wrecked structures, an alert over a two-way radio cautioned officers that additional glide bombs had been fired toward the area. Officers directed residents to seek cover inside an underground bunker, located at least two storeys down, before another blast struck and cut off the recording.

According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched nine guided aerial bombs, including heavy 3,000-kilogram munitions, targeting a site near a local school where humanitarian supplies were being handed out. The consecutive strikes hit arriving emergency personnel and citizens who had rushed to take shelter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Wednesday that search teams were still working to locate more than 30 people feared trapped beneath the debris. Expressing frustration over the global response, Zelensky described the attack as a deliberate assault on civilians and first responders, adding it to the list of wartime atrocities committed since Moscow began its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Emergency service imagery confirmed the scale of destruction, displaying a massive crater where the underground structure had stood. The Russian defence ministry has not issued any public response regarding the incident.

The strikes occurred amid renewed international diplomatic efforts. Zelensky disclosed that he held a 90-minute discussion with United States peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in preparation for three-way talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi. Simultaneously, Ukrainian delegates met with officials from Western nations, the European Union, NATO, and the World Bank in Brussels to negotiate post-war rebuilding plans and prospective security arrangements.

Diplomatic observers suggest expectations remain modest for the upcoming Abu Dhabi talks, which were halted earlier this year. In the intervening months, Russia has intensified bombardments across Ukraine as the nation faces severe shortages of Western air defence interceptors.
