Kyiv energy sites and key bridge damaged in overnight Russian assault
The strikes hit a major bridge and energy facilities in the Kyiv region. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of trying to "push" Ukraine "into a blackout" ahead of talks in Abu Dhabi.

Russian aerial strikes battered Kyiv and nearby districts overnight, targeting vital infrastructure including power sites and a key crossing over the Dnipro River, according to Ukrainian and Russian officials. The overnight barrage left at least one person dead and eight others injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on social media that Russian forces deployed 36 ballistic missiles alongside 172 drones during the assault. He charged that the offensive was designed to force the capital and the broader nation into a widespread blackout, using the occasion to reiterate appeals for bolstered assistance from the United States.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the Northern Bridge sustained damage, warning that basic utilities across the capital were facing severe strains. With overnight temperatures plunging to freezing point at zero degrees Celsius, residents are contending with compromised electricity, municipal heating, and running water networks. Tymur Tkachenko, the governor of the Kyiv region, stated that energy installations across three separate districts were struck.
From Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for striking the Northern Bridge, asserting that Ukrainian forces were employing the route to move military hardware and weaponry. Russian officials also reported hitting the Meridian Plant, alleging the industrial site is utilized to manufacture Flamingo cruise missiles. Additional damage was reported at energy and manufacturing sites within the Kyiv province, an electrical substation situated in the adjacent Zhytomyr region, and a commercial vessel operating in the Black Sea.
The renewed bombardment comes shortly before delegates from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are scheduled to convene in Abu Dhabi for a fourth round of trilateral discussions. Earlier diplomatic sessions arranged through Washington have yielded little tangible progress, bogged down by unresolved disputes regarding territory and regional security guarantees.
Speaking on Friday, US President Donald Trump claimed that a resolution to the conflict might be nearing, describing his goal as a comprehensive settlement that encompasses European security. In a separate diplomatic development the previous week, a localized six-day pause in fighting mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump allowed approximately 800 civilians to leave the Russian-held town of Oleshky in the southern Kherson province.
