Israeli armed forces have initiated a multi-day security campaign across parts of the occupied West Bank following an armed assault that left two soldiers dead, military officials announced on Friday.

The coordinated operation involves extensive property searches, interrogations, and the razing of structures. According to a joint statement released by the military and the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency, security units are focusing their efforts on the Hebron district, which authorities identified as the origin point of the assailants.

Officials stated that counterterrorism activities are simultaneously taking place across dozens of separate sites. Personnel on the ground have been tasked with tracking down and dismantling militant networks, questioning individuals of interest, and knocking down unauthorized buildings near the shooting location that could present ongoing security hazards.

The sudden escalation comes at a politically sensitive moment for Israel, arriving mere days before voters head to the polls in a closely contested national election scheduled for Tuesday. National security has dominated political discourse throughout the campaign trail.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is contending with a competitive battle to retain his office, visited the location where the soldiers were slain alongside political partners from his right-wing coalition. During the appearance, leadership figures reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing a stricter stance against militant networks operating within the West Bank.

The military has indicated that its activities in the territory will persist over the coming days as forces continue conducting targeted sweeps and demolitions in the area.
