Max Verstappen secured his and Red Bull's opening victory of the season after delivering a commanding drive in a disrupted Bahrain Grand Prix held in Malaysia. The race at the Sepang circuit was relocated after Bahrain funded the event following political unrest across the Middle East.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli finished as runner-up, substantially strengthening his grip on the drivers' championship. His teammate George Russell suffered a power unit failure while running in third position with only five laps remaining, widening Antonelli's points advantage over Russell to 84 points with no more than seven rounds remaining on the calendar.

The grand prix experienced an initial delay of ninety minutes caused by severe tropical rainfall followed by unexpected software malfunctions during formation laps behind the safety car. Several cars slowed to a crawl due to an interaction between slow speeds, wet conditions, circuit design, and required energy management settings. Governing body the FIA issued a software update removing specific energy caps and ultimately opted to reset the grid to its original order before conducting the official start.

Once green-flag racing commenced, both front-row starters Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton lost ground. Antonelli and Russell swiftly swept into the top two positions on intermediate tyres. Hamilton had opted for soft slick tyres on the damp surface and plummeted to 17th place, trailing the front-runners by almost a full minute early on.

Verstappen reclaimed second position from Russell on lap six and closed in on Antonelli before an early safety car was triggered when Valtteri Bottas spun off in his Cadillac. The leaders took the opportunity to switch onto slick tyres, after which Verstappen overtook Antonelli at Turn Four on lap 13. The Dutchman maintained an untroubled lead for the remainder of the afternoon.

Behind the leader, Antonelli passed Russell on lap 21 to lock down second place. A late neutralisation prompted by Alex Albon's stranded Williams brought the pack together for a brief four-lap sprint, shortly after Russell pulled over with engine trouble.

Hamilton produced an exceptional recovery drive following his disastrous opening stint. The British driver steadily carved through the field and eventually passed Red Bull's Isack Hadjar at Turn One with three laps remaining to secure the final podium place.

Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc also overtook Hadjar in the final laps to finish fourth, leaving the Frenchman in fifth. Oscar Piastri crossed the line in sixth for McLaren, while Liam Lawson took seventh for Racing Bulls. Fernando Alonso placed eighth to collect points for Aston Martin, followed by Lando Norris in ninth and Arvid Lindblad in tenth.

The championship now heads directly to Singapore next weekend to conclude a grueling three-race sequence that previously visited Azerbaijan.
