United States President Donald Trump openly voiced his frustration on Friday after being passed over for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, targeting the awarding committee and directing sharp criticism toward Norway.

Speaking at a campaign event supporting Republican candidates in Syracuse, New York, Trump spent a significant part of his appearance addressing the committee's selection. He argued that the award rightfully belonged to the United States under his leadership and condemned the panel's final decision.

Trump warned that the choice would leave lasting reputational damage on the host nation. He told attendees that the outcome marked an indelible mark against Norway and described the choice as an embarrassment. Denouncing the panel as radical ideologues who oppose democracy, he added that the perceived slight would not be forgotten by his administration.

The president laid out what he characterized as a record of international peacemaking, asserting that he had resolved multiple global conflicts. He maintained that he was poised to soon resolve or conclude two major conflicts involving Iran and the war between Russia and Ukraine, predicting rapid resolutions for both. Referring to Iran, a nation with which he initiated a war in 2026, Trump stated that the conflict would conclude swiftly, either through total concessions or the destruction of the country.

Trump further maintained that his administration prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and averting broader regional and global devastation, declaring that he had preserved more human lives than any predecessor. However, reports delivered to the US Congress by intelligence agencies in 2025 noted that Tehran had halted its nuclear weapons pursuit two decades earlier, in 2003.

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay, a South African jurist and former United Nations human rights chief who led a UN inquiry examining allegations of genocide in Gaza. Trump criticized the selection during his speech, dismissing Pillay as an obscure figure affiliated with the United Nations.
