Polish law enforcement authorities have taken a man into custody after he allegedly made threats to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, officials confirmed on Sunday.

The arrest follows an alert earlier in the day from the Polish interior ministry, which announced that investigators were examining potential plots directed at both senior government leaders. Interior ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka stated during a press briefing that the State Protection Service (SOP) had delivered a report alerting police to a suspected plot aimed at Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as Poland's deputy prime minister.

Tusk confirmed the detention in a statement published on social media, announcing that the individual responsible for making the threats had been apprehended. The prime minister commended police forces for their rapid response and decisive measures in neutralizing the threat.

Government officials have not yet disclosed details regarding the identity of the detained suspect, the specific nature of the threats, or any potential motivations behind the incident. The State Protection Service is the state security agency responsible for safeguarding high-ranking government figures and state assets across Poland.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with police and security services working to evaluate the full scope of the security breach and determine whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged plot.
