Kenya has confirmed its second fatality linked to Ebola after a 65-year-old woman succumbed to the virus in the capital, Nairobi, according to the country’s health ministry.

Officials stated on Friday that the deceased patient was an immediate relative of Kenya's first recorded Ebola victim. She had been placed under observation in quarantine before exhibiting signs of illness ten days prior to her death.

Following the onset of her symptoms, she was transferred to a specialized infectious disease facility located in Nairobi, where clinicians administered supportive treatment. Health authorities noted that medical teams "did everything possible to save her life," but the patient passed away on Friday evening.

The health ministry confirmed that the victim's family has been informed of the loss. Officials added that they are coordinating directly with her relatives to conduct a burial that is both safe and respectful, adhering to strict medical protocols designed to prevent further transmission of the virus.

The death marks another setback for health teams working to trace and isolate contacts linked to the initial case. Close monitoring of quarantined contacts remains a key component of outbreak containment, as the viral infection carries a high fatality rate and spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids from infected individuals. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding additional suspected cases or updates on other quarantined individuals.
